| Karen Havighurst and Ruth
Ross began Arrangements in 1984 in response to a growing demand
for efficient planning of special events in the Triangle area.
Both Ruth and Karen have numerous regional and statewide
contacts and resources in the cultural, professional, and
education sectors and have lived and worked in the area
for more than 25 years. Ruth is from Winston-Salem, N.C.
and is a graduate of Duke University with a degree in art
history. Karen is a St. Louis native and has a degree in
fine arts from Ohio University.
Ruth brings to the business extensive
experience on community, educational, and cultural boards,
including event planning and financial management. She is
trained in communication skills and institutional development
techniques and is an experienced wedding director. She recently
served as President of the Duke Alumni Association and as
member of the University's Board of Trustees.
Karen trained as a graphic designer and worked in New York City in advertising and publishing before moving to the south. Her freelance design business in Durham focused on business logos and arts publicity for which she was awarded the Women of Achievement Medallion in Arts and Communications by the YWCA of Durham. She served three years as an appointee to the City of Durham’s Appearance Commission. She is also an accomplished harpist, having performed at numerous weddings and private events as well as holding the principal chair in the Greensboro Symphony for three years.
